Bectyl Oral Paste

Description

Bectyl Paste is a unique veterinary formula - a carefully formulated mix of electrolytes, zinc, B group vitamins, vitamin E and citrate to supplement the diet of performance horses engaged in strenuous exercise, or during and after transport, where these nutrients may be limiting.

It is ideal for all active horses, including endurance horses, trotters, pacers, race horses, thoroughbreds, polo and polocrosse ponies, eventers, campdrafting and sporting horses, show jumpers, show and dressage horses, and pony club horses.

Nutritional Information about Bectyl

BECTYL supplies the following nutrients per 60 mL syringe:

  • Electrolytes
  • Chloride 18.6 g Potassium 7.2 g Sodium 5.6 g
  • Magnesium 5.8 g Calcium 1.6 g Sulphate 0.34 g
  • B group vitamins
  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine) 100 mg Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) 120 mg
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin) 360 mg Vitamin B5 (calcium pantothenate) 160 mg
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 7.5 mg Vitamin B9 (folic acid) 28 mg
  • Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) 0.81 mg
  • Antioxidant - Vitamin E 2.2 g
  • Trace element - Zinc 0.23 g
  • Buffer - Citrate 2 g

Directions for Use

Each 60 mL syringe of BECTYL contains two 30 mL doses which is the recommended dose for horses with a body weight of 450-500 kg. For ponies with body weights of 250-300 kg, give half the dose. Adjust the dose for lighter or heavier horses.

BECTYL should be administered orally over the back of the tongue.

Dose

Horses lose electrolytes on a daily basis in urine, sweat, faeces and breath. Horses will end up with electrolyte depletion if losses exceed intake over a long period of time. This can take days, even weeks, to reverse. So with electrolytes, it is best to administer on a regular daily basis, according to work.

Active horses in training should receive electrolytes daily: a daily dose of BECTYL is 30 ml/day for a 450-500 kg horse. Provide access to fresh, clean drinking eater after dosing.

In gallopers and pacers and other horses in strenuous high level competition: 30-60 mL on the day/competition before a race and an extra 30-60 mL after the race/competition. Provide access to fresh, clean drinking eater after dosing.

Endurance: 30 ml at each vet check and rest stop during a race. 60 ml on completion of the race and 30 ml on the following one or two mornings after a race. Provide access to fresh, clean drinking eater after dosing.

Travelling: 30 ml about 30-45 minutes prior to the journey for horses travelling greater than 4 h. Provide access to fresh, clean drinking eater after dosing. 30 ml every 4 hours during long distance transport if drinking water can be provided. 30-60 ml after the trip. Provide access to fresh, clean drinking eater after dosing.

Competing away from home: as noted above, 30-60 ml on arrival. Also, 30-60 ml daily when competing away from home. Provide access to fresh, clean drinking eater after dosing.
